The event is inspired by Black Consciousness Day, a national holiday in Brazil observed every November 20. Although rooted in the Brazilian context, our aim is to create a shared celebration of diasporic Blackness across the Americas. The name Confluências Amefricanas echoes Lélia Gonzalez’s vision of Amefricanidade, which emphasizes the cultural, political, and historical connections between Africa and the Americas.
The evening will include music, dance and poetry readings - all designed to create a space of joy, collectivity, remembrance, reflection, and action.
Open to all regardless of identity.
Presented by the Department of Spanish and Portuguese and the Carl A. Fields Center in collaboration with the Black Student Union, Generational African American Students Association, Princeton Caribbean Connection, the Forward Collective, and the Princeton Latin American Students Association.
